Literature Text

Our brains naturally have a filter behind the frontal lobe
To keep our thoughts in balance,
Thoughts are chosen to be said aloud,
Others are chosen to be kept within the mind.

But I was born without said filter
So I had to build my own,
But instead I ended up building a brick wall.

Growing and developing through the impulses I had
None of which I could control,
No thoughts were balanced,
All were said aloud without any decision.

Day after day I heard their laughs,
Heard their harsh words,
Sitting alone on the unforgiving floor,
So I can be told I have a faulty brain.

Taking their threads and needles,
I sewed my mouth shut,
Creating my own bricks
And thus I created my unbreakable filter,

So silence can rain down on my skin,

But now I don't know how to undo the stitching,
Or let any thoughts pass through just sometimes...
